Should AI be banned in schools?

In 2025, AI (artificial intelligence) is more relevant than ever, and the question of whether AI should be banned is becoming ever more prominent. From ChatGPT helping students write essays to AI tools grading assignments and creating lesson plans, the technology is no doubt transforming classrooms worldwide. But as AI’s presence grows, so does the debate: Should it be embraced or banned entirely?

Many educators and parents worry that AI is doing more harm than good. Some argue that it discourages academic integrity by making it easier for students to cheat on take-home essays or projects, thereby undermining the purpose of education: to build critical thinking and problem-solving skills. This is why in many schools, they have introduced lockdown browsers that prevent students from opening anything except their essays, and have removed take-home essays completely.

On the other hand, some argue that banning AI is not the answer; instead, we should teach students how to use it responsibly. From marketing to medicine, AI is already shaping careers. Teaching students how to use it prepares them for the modern workforce. Ignoring it may leave them unprepared for real-world demands. Additionally, AI is already being utilized by students to enhance their understanding of concepts and facilitate practical study through practice problems. An example of this is Google Gemini, which can create quizzes in seconds about any topic you prompt it to, with a detailed explanation of the incorrect answers. In addition to offering extra help to students, it helps teachers save time by creating study materials, analyzing student progress, and critiquing lesson plans.

So, what do you think? Should artificial intelligence be banned altogether, encouraged, or something in the middle? Join the discussion below-your opinion matters!
